Pops Mensah-Bonsu Waived
I don't know why the heck I'm even writing about this, but Pops Mensah-Bonsu got waived by the Houston Rockets a couple days ago. I know that he's really a slightly taller, slightly more athletic version of Renaldo Balkman, who just got a contract extension, but Pops is an electrifying player that has the speed to run with Lawson on the break. He's more coordinated and skilled than Petro, and although he's smaller than Petro, I'd rather have Pops on, say, Bynum than Petro. Pops would help us on the boards and on the defensive end. Come to think of it, he's more like Chris Andersen than Renaldo Balkman.

I thought
Toronto gave him up in free agency?
I’d love to pick up Pops, I stated during free agency that this guy would help us immensely. Waive Petro and get POPS!

malik allen
denver has a couple days practice before the next game. nugs need to determine if allen fits in or not before the next roster move. center and power forward play 48 minutes each in a regular game for a total of 96 minutes. right now there is a 3 man rotation of kmart, nene and andersen. that averages out to 32 minutes per player WITHOUT ANY MARGIN FOR ERROR. if a player has foul trouble, an injury or overtime it becomes a big problem. chicago game was a good example. nene plyed 40 minutes and had 13 rebounds. the back to back with the bucks he seemed a half step slow all night. the only thing good about petro is using his 880k contract as part of a trade. allen’s contract is at 1.3 million. it all depends if he can develop and fit in as the 4th big man. the suspense is killing me but denver is in a wait and see mode right now.

Allen has sucked like crap the past few years
3 points, 2 rebounds, and a foul for 40% from the field? Yuck

Not sure why we traded for him
It looks like Balkman and Petro are the first in line for minutes at the C/PF spot. Using Kenyon and Nene for 35+ minutes is a dubious proposition. Right now Allen in the only big with skills to hit a jump shot. It won’t mean much if he never carves out a role beyond an injury insurance policy. Considering how much Denver struggles to get rebounds, it might be more useful to have a high energy big who crashes the boards. It is time to figure out Allen sooner rather than later.
