Around SBN: Stan Van Gundy Fired As Head Coach Of The Magic

Where's the Beef

It is apparent that the Nuggets are getting outplayed at the Center position

Nene isn't a true Center and leaves a lot to be desired. He would do great at the PF  position.

Bird is not even close in being a Center. He blocks shot well be he's to light in the ass

With this being said the Trade Exception can get us DJ Mbenga without having to give up anyone.
Lakers are way over the cap and Mbenga is big and would be a force  to reckon with.

We need to get BIG.  If the Mbenga deal isn't doable then I suggest Robert Swift.
He's not on the Thunders roster any longer. Maybe we could get him at the vet minimum.

With the addition of either maybe they could shwo our brilliant coach they could help the Nuggets in a quest for the ring.

Mbenga would be a good pickup. I agree with you, none of our bigs are true centers.

So what we would need to get him with the trade exception? A trade at all or we could just get him?

Nugs could just bring him in

It would have to be okayed by LA but that is what the trade exception is for.

I don't think the Lakers give up Mbenga ...

His salary is not high enough to lighten Dr. Buss’ pockets enough and he’s starting for them right now in place of Pau Gasol.

Robert Swift is a HUGE body … he can’t stay healthy, but I wouldn’t mind seeing him come in for some workouts.

Swift is young enough

Where as Hess could work with him like he did Nene and get him healthy.

Dear Santa (Stan K)

All I want for Xmas is for the Nuggets to pick up two Bigs that our brilliant coach would play

Why

would the Lakers give us anyone of value?

by NugsRoxHusker on Nov 12, 2009 2:56 PM MST reply actions

No way this happens

Lakers are paying Mbenga at or about league minimum so even with the luxury tax, it’s not much of a sting for a large market team with an owner that cares less about costs and more about getting another trophy, a goal which would only be further impeded by letting us pick him up. Basically, what Nate said.

by Artimus Mangilord on Nov 12, 2009 3:22 PM MST reply actions

Do you think

If GK had taken advantage of the golden opportunity that presented itself last year that Stan K would have paid the luxury tax for a big man this year.
I just think that since GK has been given tons of talent on teams and he’s never produced Stan K says " Fuck It’ and play with what you got.
To bad for the Nuggets.

So there is a lot of trade proposals that only work for the Nugs

How about a more balanced one . .that is, we actually give something up:

To Denver: S Jackson, R. Turiaf, K. Azubuike
To Golden State: Boozer, Korver, 3.1M trade exemption from Denver
To Uah: Martin

Logic: Denver get a center and moves Nene to PF, picks up two additional wings, Jackson increases both defense and rebounding opp if he play the 2, Azubuike adds defense and outside shooting. While it costs us our best man defender I think we could still improve the overall defense. . . 2.2M in salary cap savings this year (1.1 x2 for luxury tax = 2.2M), offset by long term commitment to Jax. Painful but nothing is free (’cept Gasol to LA).

GS: Unloads Jax, get’s real low post threat in Boozer, great outside shooter in Kover on 1 yr deal, if it doesn’t work out, tons of cap relief down the road

Utah: Salary cap savings this year of 2.6Mx 2 = 5.2M, Get the toughness Sloan loves in Martin, unloads Boozer and open up PT for Milsap

Warriors lose out on talent but get the most salary cap relief down the road. Utah and Denver save money this year while over they are the cap. Uah probably loses talent but Martin fills a niche for them. Tough to trade with rivals but this would make some sense . . it would also work to substitute AK for Boozer/Korver which wouldn’t save Utah as much money this year but would save them on next year.

Terrible

Kmart is the glue to this team’s defense. Without him we’ve allready seen this year what happens. 0 and 2 enough evidence for you? Maybe you should look back to last year’s record without Kmart… Terrible idea.

by Gasus on Nov 14, 2009 1:36 PM MST up reply actions

Of course I don't want to trade Martin but . . .

Smith / Melo / Billups are untouchable. Nene is a lot younger and it is not clear to me, he isn’t better than Martin. What does that leave to trade if you want to get anything of value.

Turiaf at center would allow Nene to shift to PF, which I think would help ton. Every game Martin has sat out, we haven’t had a starting caliber replacement so what does it mean that the Nugs suffer w/o him? Of course they do because we only have two big men with any girth to cover on the front line!

Despite last night’s pasting of the Lakers, we still need to add more rebounding. Bynum was still a handful and Lake show was without Pau, who we have no real answer too.

Swift sucks and has drug problems

He’s a poor man’s birdman. Why do you want him?

LAkers aren’t giving Mbenga to a conference rival

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
