nov 3rd is coming quick i want to see big bertha
big bertha as in a new big man
form watching the start of this season i'm a little worried and i know we started out good but the teams who improved this off season really did, lakers with artest plus they have three 7-footers they can put out ther for 48mins, spurs are going to be tough (we should have drafted blair by the way that guy is a beast nothing wrong with his knees) boston will dominate the east along with the cavs and magic but my concern is with the west portland, houston, utah and even okla city will be challenging. this now brings me to big bertha (hope all of you had a chance to read that article) we need a gritty-gutty big man i'm sorry but i don't think nene is going to cut it. the birdman has had a very slow start of witch i'm getting bumb'd about. afflalo hopefully he finds his shot, ty lawson-no complaints there. sorry got off track there back to the bigs the team seems to be solid exept for the big man area we need a improvement there- IS NENE THE ANSWER? i keep thinking if theres some way to get david lee we should, is lee a better choice then nene? you decide. but i think this is our weakness and i hope you all agree.
bring lee to denver.

Even if Lee is the answer
I don’t think there is any way we could maneuver a trade for him. I certainly wouldn’t want to trade Nene (who is starting badly admittedly, but it’s only two games into the season) straight up for a big man who seems to provide even less interior/post defense. Sure he hits shots at a better click, but when Nene gets going he’s pretty hard to stop and he’s great at finishing on fast breaks.
I think just in general you shouldn’t get your heart set on an early season trade like Mark Wark mentioned. In light of Melo’s play and Balkman/Afflalo being re-signed you should probably anticipate management sticking with this current group for at least this season, if not next years. Why the potential to see even less movement next year? Assuming we get no further than making it past the first round we still have to confront overwhelming salary issues in Melo/Billups/Nene/Martin contracts as well as the possibility of an even lower luxury cap.
Ultimately though I’m as nervous as you and appreciate the fan post. Hopefully Karl works out the rotation kinks by the time JR comes back and we can see our high flying offense excel under Melo’s new drive. But I also hope we can maybe get Nate or Andrew to comment on whether or not we see any movement the rest of the season and if so, how big or small.

gortat from orlando is my choice. trade lk’s rights, petro and some draft picks. the other option is trying to get aaron gray from chicago. he is out with a stress fracture in his leg. he will not be ready to contribute until after the new year. gortat only had 10 minutes in the last game i checked for orlando. his salary with tax would be close to 12 million. gray is only making 1 million and if you cut petro there is not much of a difference. other than those 2 options i cannot see getting a 7 footer without giving up talent on the roster.

Didn't Gortat get signed to a ridiculous contract though?
I thought the reason why they were able to get him back from Dallas was resigning him to an obscene amount of years. Plus he was pretty integral to their Finals team last year I doubt they’re looking to get rid of him from their bench.

Magic just signed Gortat to a big 5-year deal
It would be terrible PR to give him away a few months later.
Gray sucks. Foster, even if you think about his contract, is sitll better.

Also, I think Petro's deal is guareenteed
But I agree. We shouldn’t have resigned Petro.

gortat was restricted
orlando had the right to match the offer. orlando did not want to lose him for nothing. because gortat was orlando’s own free agent they had to wait until the season started if they wanted to trade him. his contract is about the same as kleiza’s contract offer from a year ago which makes it rediculous enough.

Oh okay
Yeah I was only following it marginally because I knew with Gortat suddenly Dallas would be a legitimate Western nightmare again. He brings a lot to the table with his size and would be incredibly productive working alongside a finesse type big like Melo or Dirk, but on the Magic he’s just the bench version of Dwight Howard. Still, how in the hell do you see us theoretically acquiring him assuming we’re willing to take on his salary? Petro plus picks?

linas kleiza's rights
it works for olando. they get value for gortat and salary cap relief at the same time. petro and picks are needed to balance the salary cap numbers. gortat=5.7 million. kleiza had a 2.8 million qualifing offer. petro is about 800 thousand. there is about a 2 million dollar difference. the only other thing i can think of is balkman. he is originally from florida and he goes to last year’s nba finals team. i would like to see balkman stay with denver.

Balkman has upside
Clearly the management sees it, financially or otherwise, and I love his hustle and play as well. I’m not sure if giving him up for Gortat would be the right move, but with the limited amount Balkman has been used I’m sure there wouldn’t be a very big gap. I would make the Petro/Kleiza deal in a heart beat though and could see Orlando profiting off 2nd, 3rd round picks by selling them off to lottery teams like Sacramento.

There isn't a third round in the NBA draft

agree
when you look down the road after kmart and chauncey you have a roster of balkman, melo,ty, jr, nene, afflalo, andersen, graham and possibly gortat instead of kleiza. denver would be set now and in the future.

Big Bertha
i think “Big Bertha” refers to a trade idea, or mutiple options for trades, later on in the season. the way Warkentein explained it he said if we get in trouble option “Big Bertha” is there. i think it will be a trade at the deadline in February, not now. and it wont involve the 7.4 million trade exeption. it could definetly involve the 3.4 million dollar trade exeption we received from shipping chucky atkins to OKC.
bottom line: i don’t think we will see “Big Bertha” untill later in the season (if we even need it)
Back to the 7.4 million trade exeption…people are saying its useless because it isnt enough to secure Stephen Jackson. its still 7.4 million!! thats alot…we could still pick up a big for it.
Can't Use Big Bertha Later
It expires Tuesday.

Don't think Gortat is Possible
Free agent conracts can’t be traded until December I believe. I’m not 100 percent sure, but if that’s the case then Gortat is out of the question unless the trade of LK’s rights, Petro and picks goes down in thue future, which isn’t enough to get him.
An option always mentioned Jeff Foster isnt going to happen
hes injured for 2 weeks
and teams never trade for injured players so we wont be getting him…
