Nugs also pick up Afflalo's option for next year. Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted the extension is for 3 years and $5.2 million, with bonuses for wins and minutes played. That's a bargain and a good sign Naldo will play more in the future.

BALKMAN IS THE NEW EDDIE NAJERA

1.7 mil per…As long as Balkman doesn’t do drugs or face a career-ending injury, that’s a bargain.

If they didn’t pick up AA’s option, I would have put Wark on the ballot for 2009-2010 worst GM of the year. Of course, nobody will beat the Wallace/Heisley combo at sucking at running a team. If the Suns give away Stoudemire, then Keer/Parson(?) will get close.

Why would bal;kman sign

Why would he sign an extension and continue to play for a coach who doesn’t appreciate/value his skillset if the last year or so is any indication. Sounds like career suicide! He can go and be some team’s Najera.

Well he could get traded and that's a nice extension for a 12th man!!!!!

This a question I have for many nba types...

Are you just looking to get paid/security or are you want to excel in your craft as a professional. The money is not all that extravagant starting at $1.67M. Maybe front office made a promise to him ? He could also grow bitter and disappointed about not playin and negative attitude to the team.

Maybe GK has a secret plan to use him that we not privy to?

His playing time has been a major concern for fans since his arrival.

Anytime you get an offer of secure money for X amount of years in the NBA … you gotta take it, especially if you are a bench guy like Balkman.

Security is very important …

I hope he can somehow get into the rotation, but I just don’t know if it’s going to happen in a Denver uniform.

THE STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew)

STIFF #1: THE FUTURE OF THE NBPA
If the NBA owners opening proposal for the new collective bargaining agreement is any indication, we're heading for a lockout in 2011 and after that, smaller contracts, smaller salaries and less revenue shared with the players.

STIFF #2: THE CLIPPERS
After correctly kicking Mike Dunleavy upstairs and rightly installing Kim Hughes as head coach, why are rumors of Isiah Thomas joining the Clips circling around already?

STIFF #3: THE EASTERN CONFERENCE
Rumors of the re-birth of the Eastern Conference have been greatly exaggerated.  Yes, the Cavaliers are awesome but the sixth playoff seed might be sub-.500.  And do you think any of the West's top six teams fear the Celtics, Magic or Hawks?  No chance.

STIFF #4: ANKLE INJURIES
First Carmelo Anthony.  Then Chauncey Billups. And now possibly Arron Afflalo?  Tape those ankles up, dammit!

STIFF #5: NEW JERSEY NETS
4-46 and losers to the lowly Pistons on Saturday night.  But Lawrence Frank was the problem, right?
