Chris Andersen

The birdman is obviously a fan favorite, but he hasn't been "flying" like he did last year. Only one block in the last two games? I know it's early in the season but this is a little worrysome to me. He was a huge part of our success last season defensively and his presence will be missed if he can't keep blocking those shots. Also, it's a little worrysome that he signed a 5 year deal this offseason that could be up to $26 million. Anderson does two things well, blocking shots and getting the crowd excited. If he can't block shots how is he supposed to get the crowd excited? Remember... Anderson is 31 right now and he isn't getting any younger.

BIRD, WE NEED YOU TO START FLYING AGAIN!!!

instincts vs. fundamentals

andersen gets faked off his feet too easy. he is just trying to adjust his game right now. in about ten games he will have the best of both worlds. he went 3 for four at the foul line with 6 rebounds. he will not becoming out of no where and sneeking up on anybody this year.

Andersen will excite the crowd just by getting off the bench.

Stats are soooo overrated. He may not be blocking shots in the first 2 games, but he is altering a helluva lot of shots! Which is just as good for the team.

Has Birdman Lost a Step?

I would agree that all is not right with The Birdman. He doesn’t seem to elevate like he did last year and is not as active on the defensive end on the Boards. He seems bigger, and I don’t know if the extra weight has made him less quick and mobile, but he is not the same player so far this year. If he has declined this much in one year, that 5-year deal looks like a nightmare…. I wonder if he is dealing with some kind of injury right now??

Injury or "Other" Problems???

God, I hope there are not “other” problems going on with Bird. I really think his issues so far this year are due to him playing at a little bit too much weight and needs to become the undersized, high flying, mobile player he used to be…Age may be setting in a bit to .. and, he has the BIG contract now, so he is not literally fighting for his livelihood each and every night, like he was last year. All this being said, I am really pulling for Bird, both for his own sake and the franchises….

Is he taking up crack again?

Please be no.

his jump is not there, ug we really have to be concerned what happens to him in 2-3 years at 35… I am starting to regret passing on blair so that we could sign birdman ….

Maybe we should have traded Hunter and bird for Foster

block shot is a last resort

when all else fails trying to block a shot is the only thing left to do. andersen is doing other things well like rebounding, setting picks and hitting free throws.

I'd much, MUCH rather have Birdman play goood defense than go for the block every time.

Blocks aren’t a good indication of defense. Just because Lebron is good at weakside blocks doesn’t mean he’s an amazing defender.

Jeez

I wasn’t saying I’ve lost faith in Bird, or that he’s starting drugs again. I never said any of this. I was just wondering if you thought he lost a step during the off-season. Personally, Bird is my favorite player not only because what he does on the court but also who he has become despite his complications in life. It seems like he worked harder this off-season than he ever has in his life, and I didn’t take into account the altering of shots and also maybe the extra muscle weighing him down. It’s too early to jump to conclusions. We’ll see what happens throughout the season.

i know exactly andersen's problem

in the offseason he got more tatoos, grew his mohawk longer and now has to use more gel in his hair. the additional weight is holding him down. if he shaves his head he can get rid of the extra gel, hair and head band. he can change his nickname from the birdman to the eagle. cris THE EAGLE andersen. he is also determined to be more than a one-trick pony. he is working very hard to become a multi dimension complete player at both ends of the court.

Good point

about Bird becoming more rounded. I noticed him taking more shots against Portland than I normally would expect him to take. Also I did see him taking an effort to come up with some critical rebounds offensively and defensively. Unfortunately not a lot of those went in his favor.

People also have to take into account that he really does seems to pride himself on disturbing shots even if he doesn’t put a hand on the ball. Marlowe and Hastings especially have made a big deal out of pointing that out.

THE STIFF LIST (as of 3/8 by Andrew)

STIFF #1: K-MART'S LEFT KNEE
Best-case scenario, K-Mart misses another week or two with a sore knee.  Worst-case, he's done for the season with knee surgery.

STIFF #2: RON ARTEST
Nice hairdo.  'Nuff said.

STIFF #3: JOEL PRYZBILLA
The Blazers backup center re-injured his surgically repaired right knee after slipping in the shower.  Now we're just waiting for Greg Oden to slip on a banana peel.

STIFF #4: CAVALIERS FANS
Recently set the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets - i.e. Snuggies.  Really?!  This is worthy of a world record?!

STIFF #5: BOSTON CELTICS
Losing to the pathetic Nets and almost losing to the Wizards is one thing.  But to do so at home within a week of each other...now that's an art.  I think it's safe to assume the Celtics are going nowhere in this year's playoffs.
