The Nuggets suddenly need a two-guard...
Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Indiana Pacers have signed Dahntay Jones to a four year, $11 million contract. Congrats to Dahntay for securing some serious cash in a bad NBA economy. Now it's time for the Nuggets to find a new "shooting" guard and a new cheerleader from the bench. I heard Darnell Mee is available cheap.
On a side note, I'm so glad that our ticket dollars will be contributed to Antonio McDyess' contract so that he can play for the Spurs, likely making them better than the Nuggets. Gotta love that salary cap.

Marquis Daniels, Keith Bogans or even Josh Childress as replacements?

I was thinking Matt Barnes for this spot, Or maybe Sonny Weems. One thing for sure there are a lot of 2 guards on the market so the nuggets have their pick of the litter.

Best wishes Dahntay. I don't think he made the best "team" move, but definitely a good financial one.

Look at what he did for Houston given the opportunity to play.
The key to Denver's success is to get rid of GK. With Weems in the house and other new players coming it is a sure bet that GK's ego and arrogance will surface.
I'm in the camp of the Stiff who is waiting for the FO to pull off the blockbuster deal but no matter who we get George Karl needs to be gone in order for it to work.

On a different note, seems like we missed the boat on the Channing Frye sweepstakes. He is reportedly signing with Cleveland.

1.) $MONEY$ These discussions occur behind closed doors and we don't hear about them until agreements have been made, so there's not much point in speculating what's been offered to whom.
2.) Chances at winning a championship. We all know what the Nuggets did last year, and there was a common assumption that this would help us sign free agents in the offseason, but so far this hasn't been the case. So what the hell is going on?
3.) Playing time. Again, the results here seem counter-intuitive. Can anyone tell me that McDyess will get more PT in San Antonio than Denver? What about Frye in Cleveland? Sheed in Boston?
4.) Current team chemistry. OK, B.C. (before Chauncey) there were definite issues. But with one simple trade everthing changed and the Nuggets took off. Sure JR's in the clink right now and KMart has had issues in the past and Melo is the unquestioned superstar...but these add up to being par for the course in the NBA. I don't see how someone could be turned off by the current roster.
5.) Location. I get it, dusty old cow town. Fly-over state. Small market. But would you honestly choose Cleveland over Denver? Do the fans and media respond any more harshly in Denver than Boston or New York?
6.) Coaching staff. Finally, I get to my point. OK, you're a FA in the NBA. You have the choice of playing for: Doc Rivers, Mike Brown, Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich, Mike D'Antoni or the Great George Karl. Who would you pick? I know I'm biased; I've never liked the turd. But I think you have to at least wonder if GK's history with calling out players in the media and mindless substitution patterns have any negative effect on a FA's decision making.
I think the question's at least worth asking...

I for one almost prefer not having the Nuggets mentioned all the time. The media does a good job of talking itself into or out of hypotheticals. Last year when no one had the Nuggets even in the playoffs, (except you Andrew) it seemed like the whole team played a little harder.
Marion for 5 years? J-Kidd for another 3? Hedo for 5? Even McDyess is fading. Artest for another five when he was already showing serious signs of slowing down last year? None of this stuff outside of the Gortat signing seems really impressive.
I'd rather the Nuggets be the underdogs again and have to fight than walk into the year considered favorites. They are already good, even as constucted they will contend for the West this year. (hopefully with another wise in-season trade, we'll add some talent where the holes will show.)
I'd rather bring back a team ready to prove to the world that last year was not a fluke than a complacent group thinking they can waltz into the WCF's. Our talent is not the problem, it's the attitude of the team. Maybe if they think they have to play at the top of their game to win they'll do it for a whole season. That would be a team worth watching.

What's with giving up Nene for ANOTHER POINT FORWARD?
Nene is fine if he can play his natural position. POINT FORWARD!!
We need a CENTER not a POINT FORWARD!!
What part of this DON'T you who are calling for a POINT FORWARD trade understand?
C E N T E R = These days some one who's seven feet or taller, who is a dominate force in the middle.

Excellent post one the FO and those who think he should be offered an extension must take in to consideration.
GK is a has been and a won't get a championship coach.

I really hope we sign Frye. He is exactly what we need, a big who can streach the floor. Him and Birdman would counter each other perfectly comming off the bench. Birdman would hold down the middle with the defense and he could streach the floor with his shooting. I honestly think Frye would be a steal.

As far as the 2 goes. Id go with Weems or possibly Kareem Rush if he plays well in the summer league. He can shoot.
Even without DJ we are still deep. Balkman should get his minutes this year. What am I saying? Karl is still the coach.

GK is putting SW in the same boat that JR was in. When JR took SW to the allstar game Karl developed that attitude towards him.
I made this statement a long time ago and I bet that he has problems with rookies because of his son.

He is big, athletic, very good shotblocker and rebounder and is young.
He is quick enough for a big man to keep up with our running game and takes up a heap of real estate on D.
He has a younger Dwight Howard type build and is quite raw, but hey, he is only 20y.o.
We need size & athleticism, LAC need heart and scoring.
Win/win.

Ever since Andrew posted about the Lakers being too tall for the Nuggets, it's been pretty obvious that they need a true, over 6' 10' big guy that GK will play for at least 10 minutes per game. I think there are guys out there who can fill that role. Hopefully it will be Channing Frye, who is probably looking for more playing time than he thinks he'd get in Denver. Some of the guys that Andrew mentioned in his free agent post as being too expensive are probably watching their price sink day by day (I'm thinking Mikki Moore, whom the Nuggets have shown interest in previously). You may need to let Kleiza go to afford that big guy. Maybe the FO doesn't see that as such a glaring need, who knows?
One thing I don't understand is why the Nuggets don't request the same kind of exception for Hunter that the Rockets got for Yao. More than one doctor has told Hunter that he may never play again. As I mentioned before, Kroenke is on record saying that he won't mind if the Nuggets start the season over the cap. It's not where you start the season, it's where you end.
