OBservation for Wednesday. Carlisle said Dirk was exhausted at the end but pulled through (I paraphrased). Which reminded me in altitude the Mavericks' energy fell off a cliff in the 4th quarter, subsequently rassuring me that the Nuggs will blow them out of the water again in Game 5.

Damnit Andrew you always are on at times when I can't listen to the radio. You should try and mention something about why Balkman isn't getting any playing time. Give me a shout-out too, holla.

If ever we needed Balkman it was last night. Energy guy to replace Birdman who plays D and gets offensive boards. Where was he? Only George knows.

Spot on Goldennugget. Kleiza gives the team nothing...nothing at all. If his thumb is broken he is not an effective shooter, he doesn't play any defense, and doesn't hustle anywhere near as much as Balkman. How many more offensive rebounds would the Nuggets have if Balkman got Kleiza's minutes.

Damn that Nowitzki can make some shots! Dallas deserves some credit for pulling that game out, because we really attacked them.

JR seemed to be hitting his shot, Dallas did a good job limiting his looks, and he did a good job not forcing too much.

Chris Andersen was sorely missed. I saw JJ Berea drive a few times and get layups, and i realized it looked so rare, because that crap hasn't been allowed all playoffs long because of Bird.

I would have rather seen Balkman than Kleiza, but i read somewhere that he was our best +/- guy, so maybe i'm a moron.

We're gonna win this series in either 5 or 7... but i'd rather it be 5. The playoffs are NEVER easy, for anyone; no matter how well you are rolling, things will get tough.

Random last thought, anybody else continue to see the Nuggets basically just ignoring Karl in the huddle? The more i see, the more i truley and honestly believe this team is as much (or more) Chauncey's as it is Karl's.

ME?

I know the NBA pushes this, but I am getting sick of one man teams. I mean at the end why don't they just take Kobe and whomever; LeBron and whomever; Dirk and whomever; and clear the other 8 players off the floor.

Sure, it's effective, but it makes for boring basketball.

Andrew,

If you get the chance it might be worth it to mention Dirk's psychological warfare tactic. He goes on national TV saying "the Nuggets are long and have lots of good defenders to throw at me." He takes crap from the TNT guys and a lot of the national media. The Nuggets, including Karl, believe that they can actually guard Dirk and as such go one on one with him the rest of the series. Dirk has ridiculous game after ridiculous game, outplaying everyone on the floor and singlehandly wins it for his team last night.

If this guy wasn't playing with such a bunch of has-beens and role players there would have been a good chance they could win the series.

During the time when the refs were figuring out what happened with Melo under the basket, Kenyon was basically threatening the fans if they said or did anything to his mother. This was prior to anyone doing anything. After that, the fans felt he accused them of it so they might as well go for it. Unfortunately Lala got hit when they were aiming for Kenyon. Not condoning it. But Kenyon should know better, he was on the Nets when they played Boston in the Playoffs and he remember what Kidd and his family had to go through. I'm a Denver fan but hey it's the playoffs plus Lydia can handle herself, ask Violet.

Kleiza is the Vanilla Gorilla! +17 +/- yesterday. Led the team.

by Anonymous on May 12, 2009 10:31 AM MDT reply actions

Vanilla Gorilla? More like the Great White Dope. Don't let the +/- fool you, he was 2-7 from the field, 2-4 from the line and took a stupid technical at the wrong time. In fact, if he had hit his free throws and not been T-d up we would have won by 1 point!

Actually, I understand he's playing with a broken thumb tip. So, I'll cut him some slack.

by My3Cents on May 12, 2009 10:47 AM MDT reply actions

Unfortunately, he's been playing with a broken confidence ALL YEAR LONG.

by Bee on May 12, 2009 11:08 AM MDT reply actions

Touche' Bee. Should have traded him when we could have.

+/- is not a 100% reliable stat guys. It doesn't take into account a lot of things. It was clear Kleiza was the worst player on the court last night. I just don't understand the guy because he used to be money coming off the bench. It's so weird cuz now he just stands there trembling whenever he gets the ball. Fact is, we play 4 on 5 when Kleiza is in because in no way does he affect the team in a positive way. He isn't a threat to score, he can't play defense if his life depended on it and even when he gets a wide open shot or goes to the line he can barely manage to drain one. Fact is, he is a liability on the court. I honestly do not see how the hell he had a +17. I think someone got it wrong and it was a -17. At least Carter gets steals and isn't petrified every time he gets the ball.

Honestly, the Cuban v. K-Mart thing has to be the most useless discussion in all of sports.

Let's beat the crap out of the Mavs tomorrow and move on.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
