Other Teams You Enjoy Watching

OK, I'm James and I'm a basketballaholic.  I watch way too much of it.  If you look at my DVR right now, you'll see last Saturday's Broncos game (which I can probably delete), the two Arkansas games from the NCAA Tournament that CBS College Sports just re-showed (gotta watch Sonny!) and about 5 summer league games.  That's it.  So obviously, I need mental help.

Anyway, I was just curious other than the Nugs, what teams do you enjoy watching?  Last season, I "adopted" four other teams -- all in the East or Central time zone -- that I would watch pretty regularly.  Orlando, Atlanta, Toronto and Memphis.  3 out of 4 ain't bad.  So what about this season?

* Orlando - as long as Dwight Howard is there, they're staying in my list.  Also, as much as I ripped on Turkoglu, he really picked it up last season.  It was a travashamockery that he didn't make the all-star game.

* New Orleans - CP3 baby!  If you don't enjoy watching him, you don't love life.  Chandler's a badass, West is an all-star.  Basically, this is the team that the Nugs tried to be and failed miserably.

* Portland - I welcome our Trail Blazer overlords.  Watching them in January during their 12 game winning streak was amazing.  Brandon Roy is probably the most underrated player in the league.  Add Oden, Rodriguez, Bayless and Koponen (who I wish the Nugs would try to get) and you have a playoff team.

* Philadelphia - Andre Miller is my favorite player in the NBA and it'll be great to see him surrounded with a solid cast.  Add Brand to the mix, and it's even better.

I'm also excited to watch a little of Minnesota (Kevin Love!), Toronto (Bosh, O'Neal and Calderon make them scary) and Chicago (who every year suck me in, only to disappoint).  I used to love watching the Clippers, but now that my favorite team is Camby free, I'm not going to watch a team that has him.  The SOB is out of my life.

I use

to like watching the Lakers when Shaq was in his prime, he was a beast. But since then I wont watch any other team unless its the Nuggs. Now the playoffs are different.

nuggs are definitely my favoraite team to watch in addition to being the team i support. but i also like 76s and yea andre miller is tops but ive been enjoying iduodala and reggie evans the scrotum grabber. i also liked charlotte last season even though they sucked, i think gerald wallace is one of the most exciting players in the leuge. finally the lakers, i really loved them in the postseason even after what they did to us, i cant wait to see what the bynum-gasol-odom frontcourt looks like.

teams i hate: spurs spurs spurs, knicks

oh.. and dallas. i hate dallas.

but one thing I thought I’d throw out there is that I think people are overestimating what the trail blazers will do in the coming season. greg oden is not a young shaq and bayless will likely become a solid nba 2 guard at best; i.e. not a dwayne wade. roy, aldridge and outlaw are all good, but i think people love underestimating the fighting abilities of the nuggets core, and more importantly what front office will do with camby’s millions.

I also watch The Warriors

But the Nuggets are number one for me. Since I’m from NYC, I’m always watching The Mets too.

Great Topic

Most of the basketball I watch is based on my fantasy basketball team two time defending champion fantasy basketball team. Apart from that I mostly see the west coast games because that is what is on after my wife and daughter go to bed and I can completely take over the television.

I used to love to watch the Warriors because of Baron Davis and Monta Ellis because of the pure unpredictability of their games. Plus Ellis does two or three things every game that leaves me slack jawed.

I also make it a point to watch the Suns partly for fantasy basketball (Stoudemire) and partly to watch Steve Nash orchestrate the game of basketball.

The Oklahoma City Thundercats are another team I like to watch simply for Kevin Durant and when I click onto a Kings game and Kevin Martin is on the floor I enjoy watching him too. Martin reminds me of Larry Bird in the way he is not overly athletic, but he can still dominate a game from below the rim if that makes sense. (Please note: I am not comparing Martin to Bird from a talent perspective so do not get upset with me.)

I concur on how much fun it is to watch the Hornets, Magic and the Trailblazers during their streak. At the beginning of the Blazers’ streak last season they had a great game where they beat Detroit at home and the ease with which they did so was shocking. There will be plenty of time to get into how much Oden will help the Blazers, but I agree that adding Oden and Bayless does not automatically guarantee them a playoff spot.

I'm famous!

Front page headline. Damn, I’d like to thank everyone for making this possible. wiping tear from eye

See, I think Brandon Roy’s development alone is enough to get them into the playoffs. Oden bumps them to 7 and if Bayless and Rodriguez are as good as expected, they’ll be a 5 or 6 seed. I’m REALLY high on this team. And I know I’m going to be eating crow in December because the Blazers have a brutal start to the season, but come February and March they’re going to be rolling and smacking people around. As for teh Blazers streak, there was a game on a Sunday morning where Portland played at Toronto that ended up going to overtime that was one of the most entertaining games I had seen in a long time. I honestly thought it was one of the top 5 games of the season.

I can’t get into Durant. I loved him in college, but he’s turned into a completely one dimensional player in the pros. I’m hoping it was coaching because he’s better than that. I’m still disappointed that he got ROY.

Durant

He did become much too one dimensional in his rookie season, but I blame the coaches for playing him at shooting gurad. Once he fills out a little and they move him to small forward or even power forward his rebounding numbers will come back.

His performance over the second half of the season was very impressive and the way he carried the team in the last days of basketball in Seattle against the Nuggets and then against the Mavs in their last home game ever as the Seattle Supersonics was awesome to watch.

The Last Game in Seattle

Was one of the greatest basketball games I’ve ever seen in my life. The Nugs were blowing out Houston, so I kept checking on it. Goosebumps. But then again, I’m REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY bitter that Seattle is now in OKC.

God I hate Bennett.

thundercats? thats an unfortunate name. recent expansion X-cats teams dont seem to fare too well…

Thundercats

The Oklahoma City Thundercats was a joke started by the Orlando Magic PR guys who provided comentary during the webcast of the games from the Orlando summer league. The team name is probably going to be the Thunder. The NBA made some mistakes when publishing the schedule for 2008-2009 and if you clicked on Oklahoma City you were directed to http://www.nba.com/thunder. The page was taken down quickly, but that is pretty strong proof that Thunder is going to be the franchise’s new name.

It would have been cool to see Kevin Durant take the floor carrying the Sword of Omens though.

James, I’m with ya bro. I could definitely be considered a basketballaholic. But as much as I love the game of basketball in general, my obsession is only with NBA ball. If there’s an NBA game on tv, I’ll watch it. Even if it’s the 2 worst teams in the entire NBA. Cause even those 2 teams would have tremendous amounts of talent in my perspective. I really feel ya on the Andre Miller front. He was one of my favorite Nuggets players when he was here in Denver, and I think I was one of the few people who were actually upset when we traded him to Philly. So naturally, since then, I’ve been a Philly fan. Doesn’t hurt that he’s got all that talent surrounding him out there now either! But I’ve really enjoyed watching the Suns these last few years, along with Golden State. Even though I think both of those teams will be scratched off my list this upcoming season. And even though I’ll probably be banned from this board just for saying so, I’d have to say aside from the Nugs, my favorite team is the Lakers. I really enjoyed watching them play this last year, all the way into the finals.

THE STIFF LIST (as of 3/8 by Andrew)

STIFF #1: K-MART'S LEFT KNEE
Best-case scenario, K-Mart misses another week or two with a sore knee.  Worst-case, he's done for the season with knee surgery.

STIFF #2: RON ARTEST
Nice hairdo.  'Nuff said.

STIFF #3: JOEL PRYZBILLA
The Blazers backup center re-injured his surgically repaired right knee after slipping in the shower.  Now we're just waiting for Greg Oden to slip on a banana peel.

STIFF #4: CAVALIERS FANS
Recently set the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets - i.e. Snuggies.  Really?!  This is worthy of a world record?!

STIFF #5: BOSTON CELTICS
Losing to the pathetic Nets and almost losing to the Wizards is one thing.  But to do so at home within a week of each other...now that's an art.  I think it's safe to assume the Celtics are going nowhere in this year's playoffs.
