Allen Iverson Agrees to Receive $20.84 Million Dollars

Well, it is official.  AI is not opting out of his contract and will be one of nine NBA players who will earn north of $20 million next season.

The good news is as long as he does not sign an extension, he will have a massive expiring contract that could be of great use for the Nuggets.

The bad news is the Nuggets can sign him to an extension at any time up until his contract expires on June 30, 2009.  Both the Nuggets and AI have proclaimed that they want to come to terms on an extension and I am pretty sure they will.

My question is why would AI want to stay with the Nuggets if his ultimate goal is to win a championship?  Does he really think this team is a legitimate contender next season?  Or the season after that?

Why does he want to stay in Denver?

Maybe he knows as well as most GMs do that his style does not necessarily mesh with any of the teams that are on the verge of contending.

At this point I think the odds of AI playing the next three or four seasons in Denver are pretty high so I guess no matter what the outcome of those seasons will be at least we will be entertained.

Oh Lordy

Ok, I read about it this morning but thought it was just a “yahoo says” type of thing. Now I know its not. Thank you Jeremy, thank you so much for confirming it.

Jeremy

I wouldn’t be so confident about AI being a Nugget next season still. Remember, he’s a big expiring contract.

Not if he signs an extension this summer

I do not think Warkentien/Kronke has the courage to do anything other than sign him to an extension, but they certainly have the chance to prove me wrong.

So

Why so negative about AI wanting to end his career in Denver? Is it because you think he makes too much? Do you think that maybe he is still working on an extension for another 3-4 years. Plus nobody knows what the future holds. he could very well get a title in Denver. I dont think anyone saw Boston getting to the finals before draft day lasy year. Not saying Denver is gonna get a trade like Boston but you never know

My issues with AI

This post explains why, even though I am a fan of AI, I do not want to see him play for the Nuggets anymore.

thats cool

I will need to catch up I am new here. I would not be unhappy to see AI go, if it means keeping Anthony. I just think this team is a mess chemsitry-wise

Is sd South Dakota or San Diego? Having been born in South Dakota I hope for your sake it is San Diego.

Yes its San Diego

Been since 1991 when in the USN. Big time Colorado sports fan. I just the Nuggets to finally be good enough to compete for a title. The Franchise has not competed for one since the 1975-76 season and that was the ABA. Plus no conf finals since 1985 it makes me sad that Denver is the only fomer ABA team not to play in the NBA Finals

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
