Getting ready for a heavyweight fight...
With Evander Holyfield back in the news, I'm reminded of how far boxing has fallen. When I was growing up, I watched all the heavyweight fights and could name several contenders for the belt. Today? I don't even know who the heavyweight champ is right now.Luckily for me, I have the NBA for great heavyweight fights. And tonight, I get two of them. The under card is Kobe Bryant vs. Dwyane Wade at 6pm MST. And of course, the main event from Pepsi Center afterward features Carmelo Anthony vs. LeBron James. Oh, joy!
Coming into tonight's contest, the Nuggets find themselves at 17-8 and winners of 15 of their last 20 games. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers have been red hot and are 21-4 (a half game worse than the Lakers). If this isn't a heavyweight fight, I don't know what is.
Including the Nuggets 110-99 loss at Cleveland on November 13th, Melo has gotten the better of LeBron in seven of the players' 10 matchups (Melo was suspended for the Nuggets 110-99 win over Cleveland on January 19th, 2007). And tonight better be the eighth as this season's Nuggets need to start proving that they can beat good teams consistently, especially in Denver.
Go Nuggets!!

I thought Cavs' transition defense was great... they would just surround the guy leading the break, it's nasty. And I'm pissed that every time we got an offensive rebound, all the guy would look at is just the rim, instead of his teammates, pass it back out to the guards and reset the offense !!! Going against 2-3 Cavs in the paint... oh my. And then KMart couldn't buy any shot tonight... and did Nene really finish with a chinese donut (1 pt) today?
Last thing, I think Melo is still getting caught up with LeBron hype. Okay Melo, you need to forget about LeBron "this superior player than me", focus on the team goal. He's taking all ill-advised shots all game long... without AC and Andersen and J.R. this score would have been really really ugly.
Congrats Cavs, great team.

Once again, more quality coaching. Karl did not call a time out in the first half until well into the second quarter. No timeouts during a first quarter where the cavs scored 36 or so.
At halftime, the nuggets are down eleven. They open the second half with 4 quick points and cut the lead by all of two points to 9. The cavs call timeout about 1:30 into the third quarter. The result? The Nuggets don't score for almost 5 minutes of game time, and the cavs extend the lead to 18. At this point Karl finally substitutes, but still hasn't called a single timeout.
Not long after the Cavs timeout in the third, it is obvious that Anthony is gassed. I don't know if it is from the effort of guarding James, or if he is just out of shape. He did a decent job on James, I thought, but when he got tired they would put a guard like Carter on James. Why not bring in Balkman to play James some?
This team is on it's usual course, one win at best in a playoff series if something doesn't change. They, at a minimum, need a servicable 7 footer. I was not a fan of Camby's - too many selfish 20 foot bricks and too light to play real defense so he had to try to block everything, but they need someone big who can play some.
