Report: Suns Acquire Jason Richardson

There is a report that the Suns have acquired Jason Richardson and Jared Dudley in exchange for Boris Diaw and Raja Bell.

I have no idea how this makes sense for the Bobcats.  I guess it may save them some money three years from now, but I do not think you can say it makes them a better team.  Maybe they get two contributors for the price of one, but they lose Dudley a decent young player to do so.  This move has the impatience of Larry Brown written all over it.

However, for Phoenix, I like the deal.  The deal was clearly made with offense in mind and I think it makes Phoenix a more dangerous team.  Like Bell Richardson is a deadly three point shooter, but he can do so much more offensively.  Defensively Richardson may be a slight downgrade from Bell, but he works hard and will prevent the Suns from experiencing a significant drop off on that side of the ball.

Phoenix may be a more talented team after this deal I also wonder if the trade was made for chemistry reasons.  Richardson should be a good soldier simply for being rescued from such a hopeless situation.

After his one tremendous season Diaw was nothing more than a bloated contract for the Suns.  I honestly think Dudley can replace much of what Diaw did for the Suns right now.

What do you guys think?  Does this make Phoenix more of a threat to the Nuggets or less of one?

Phoenix Stan over at Bright Side of the Sun is not enthused.

Meh

I am not a fan of this deal for Phoenix. It just seems like Kerr is panicking at this point.

Are you serious?

I think Phoenix just became about 20 points harder to beat.

I'm in the minority

but I’m just not thinking this is a great deal for the Suns. I could be totally wrong, lord knows it wouldn’t be the first time. Hollinger thought it was a great deal for Phoenix. Numerous others agree. I just am not a fan of Richardson. He’s not going to get his 20 points on that team, and they’re weaker defensively. Plus, Richardson doesn’t really fit in the run & gun style — his worst year came with the Warriors under Nelson.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it was a good deal for Charlotte either, I just don’t think it helps the Suns.

THE STIFF LIST (as of 3/8 by Andrew)

STIFF #1: K-MART'S LEFT KNEE
Best-case scenario, K-Mart misses another week or two with a sore knee.  Worst-case, he's done for the season with knee surgery.

STIFF #2: RON ARTEST
Nice hairdo.  'Nuff said.

STIFF #3: JOEL PRYZBILLA
The Blazers backup center re-injured his surgically repaired right knee after slipping in the shower.  Now we're just waiting for Greg Oden to slip on a banana peel.

STIFF #4: CAVALIERS FANS
Recently set the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets - i.e. Snuggies.  Really?!  This is worthy of a world record?!

STIFF #5: BOSTON CELTICS
Losing to the pathetic Nets and almost losing to the Wizards is one thing.  But to do so at home within a week of each other...now that's an art.  I think it's safe to assume the Celtics are going nowhere in this year's playoffs.
