Around SBN: Bill Stewart Dead From Apparent Heart Attack

What a Sunday!...

When you're a sports-obsessed dork like me, there's nothing better than pulling off the quadruple-whammy. That's when your favorite NFL team, favorite NBA team and both your fantasy football teams all win on the same Sunday.

And they didn't just win. Three out of the four teams in question - including my beloved Broncos and Nuggets - had to come back from fourth quarter deficits to pull off their victories.

Regarding the Nuggets specifically, they were able to overcome a sloppy three quarters worth of basketball, show some heart and avoid a potential trap game by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves at The Can tonight. You have to like the guts that this team has been showing all season long (as noted after opening night at Utah when I suggested that might have been a "good loss"), but even more so with Chauncey Billups running the show.

So while it may be tempting to nitpick what went wrong that got the Nuggets into a nine point hole with just 6:20 left in the game, I'm instead going to enjoy this win along with all the others today.

Now if only my fantasy basketball team was worth a damn, then I could be really happy.

Ok, I am pissed now. This is the second night now that I havn't been able to see the game yet have known the score at a certain point in time which didn't seem possible for the Nuggets team I have come to know to make a comeback and to my huge surprise have found out after the game that the Nuggets have actually won. I think this is the first time in my life as a Nuggets fan that I actually BELIEVE in this team. Sure, there have been times in the past that I have thought this team was good, but never have I had faith in their capability to achieve high goals that us fans set. I think I am over reacting, but I am just truly happy to be a fan right now. On a different note, I am down in Phx and went to see the Det vs Phx game only to see AI score 9 pts but, I did see the Shaqtus lay down one hell of a Body Slam on Rodney Stuckey and I was only about 25 feet away. I think the ground shook if I remember right.

I was happy that the Nuggz pulled off the win, as they should against a bad team like the Wolves. I must say though that I am still waiting for a JR Smith break-out game. He did make three 3's which was nice, but when are we going to see him start to dominate? He stats this year are very close if not worse than last year. For someone on a steep curve, he's gonna break out any game now. He needs to set aside the psychological impact of not starting (he gets more minutes than Dahntay anyway) and he just has to stick with his game, play smart and start draining those 3's! Between his potential as a 3-point shooter and his amazing athleticism that can get him to the basket, he is a huge weapon for the Nuggz. And one of these days, he's gonna break out!

how big was JR's last three. credit to Melo and Chauncey for it but. i think Karl is starting to trust JR more. he played him in crunch time instead of AC. give him props for that!

and by the way. i'm currently no.1 in my fantasy basketball team! hahah out of 18 too :D

got JR on it too hahah

Well, I was expecting the usual Nugget collapse after a big win but it didn't happen! Nuggets and stability? Dare we dream?

I just hope we get some more usable bodies on the bench pretty soon. Either that or start putting away games earlier to make more garbage minutes available . . .

LoL. Who's on your fantasy basketball team? Or just link me to the league, and I'm sure I could guess your team. Denverstiffs.com should have one of those FREE ESPN BBAL Leagues. So if you ever start one, I WANT IN!.

I too live in Phoenix, i really need to get that league pass, i was able to watch the first 9 Nuggets games through national televised games and the free preview of league pass but now all thats over except for a few national ones comin up, it sucks!!! I hate watching the Suns, their announcers bug the shit outta me. Good thing is im movin back to Denver in a few months, so happy about. 200 bucks for league pass is just outrageous!

A terrible win but this is the first terrible game the Nuggets have won in about 3 years so I'm real happy about it - good teams win terrible games.

I'm left with only yelling "GO TO THE RIM" at the TV for the last couple games which is a vast improvement over drinking lots of whiskey and bemoaning the overall state of the nuggets.

and justin.tv has games streaming often as well (although a lot of times its just the TNT and ESPN national games).

Hollinger has his new power rankings up and the Nuggets are 5th or 6th I think. Pretty crazy if you ask me. I never thought we had even the slightest chance of breaking the top 10. Also, George Karl hasn't wasted anytime in talking *ish about AI now that he is gone saying stuff like "It was frustrating with him on the offensive side of the ball wasting pointless possessions just hoisting up jump shots. Now things are a lot more steady and it rarely ever happens." Now that is not exactly what he said but something very similar. I don't really know what to think. I feel the same way but I am not sure if I would have said it out loud.

Damn, I just wrote a post and I hit some dumb ass key and erased it and I'm pissed now so I hope the Nuggets win with more passion and CB leads this bunch down the road to many more convincing wins.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
