2008-09 Game 8: Denver Nuggets at Cleveland Cavaliers Game Thread

Denver Nuggets at Cleveland Cavaliers, Nov 13, 2008 6:00 PM MST

I apologize, but due to staying up late to get the segment on the Nuggets defense done and a very busy day at work I have not had time to throw together a decent preview for the Cleveland game tonight.

Even so, you just need to know two things.  LeBron James is the most unstoppable force in basketball and for some reason the Nuggets have pretty much had their way with the Cavilers since Melo and LeBron came into the league.

On a side note I a couple of games ago I predicted that J.R. Smith would pull out of his shooting slump in Cleveland.  My reasoning is Cleveland was where he kicked off his great run over the last couple of months of the season last year when he made six threes to sink the Cavs.

Hopefully J.R. can get himself going again.

Check out one of SB Nation’s great new NBA blogs Fear the Sword for some great Cavs coverage.

Disappointed Jeremy

I’ve become accustomed to the 1000+ previews and debriefs.

Pumping in here

What a first quarter. Both teams executing remarkably well on offense. Mo Williams is scoring well and Lebron was out of his mind as usual. A 6’9 forward who moves like a 5’11 guard, crazy. Billups is on FIRE! If I’m not mistaken he is 4-4 from downtown. JR hit the only field goal he attempted which was a good sign, and Melo’s midrange game looks sweet. Defensively, its practically impossible to keep up with Lebron but apart from that we are not rotating too well on pick and rolls and we giving up a few offensive boards here and there which is really frustrating.

Great dialogue guys!

Thanks for keeping things going joshhopp

The Nuggets defense has looked much better in the second quarter. They seemed to be going through the motions in the first.

I'm not happy

With the Nuggets constantly leaving Mo Williams open.

He has the hot hand right now, and is probably the only other real offensive threat besides LeBron on the entire Cavs team.

I am a big JJ Hickson fan

He is going to be a very good player.

Terrible shot selection by Melo

And that was some awful defense by Kleiza. YOU CANNOT LET THE CAVS INTO THE PAINT.

LK cannot guard Varejao

But as long as Martin is on LeBron he will have to

Another layup.

I hope Karl lays into them during this timeout.

Chauncey never gets the ball to the roller when he is doubled

no matter how open he may be

I agree

Chauncey has to look for the rolling man into the paint more.

Nene would have at least 3 more dunks at this point.

32-24 Cleveland in the paint. For a team that leads the NBA in the paint, we should not be giving that up.

Mo Williams is just on fire.

Carter was right in his face.

Some halftime stats for you

The Nuggets defensive efficiency for the first half was 126.8. As sad as that is their offensive efficiency was 133.4.

I think we can expect a much different second half.

I like liked what the bench gave us in the first half

Hopefully they can give us another boost.

24 playoff wins for lebron VS melo’s 4!

Ugh.

Ugly quarter for Denver, they gave up 30.

by BeefySwats on Nov 13, 2008 8:05 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

Also

The Cavs have twice (28) the assists the Nuggets have.

First possession of the quarter Melo misses a layup

And Gibson scores on an easy drive.

Another miss by JR. Lead is 11…pretty sure this game is getting quickly out of reach.

You know things are going badly when...

your coach has to call a time out less than a minute and a half into the quarter.

That offensive fould call on Melo

was horrible.

This game is pretty much over.

Nuggets are taking outside jump shots and not passing. Chauncey has missed on 7 or 8 EASY pick and rolls, and nobody is boxing out or staying in front of their man on defense.

by BeefySwats on Nov 13, 2008 8:25 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

Every missed shot is killer now.

JR Smith needs to fake a pullup and drive the lane in that situation.

Fuck Joey Crawford.

That was horrible bullshit. They probably weren’t going to win that game, but that was fucking ridiculous to T Kenyon up twice in 2 minutes.

THE STIFF LIST (as of 11/20 by Andrew)

STIFF #1: THE NEW JERSEY NETS
The bad get worse.  Starting out 0-12, these Nets are doing a great imitation of the 1997-98, 11-win Nuggets.  I might have to pay someone to take my Nets tickets when they come to Pepsi Center.

STIFF #2: ALLEN IVERSON
I hate to kick one of my favorite players while he's down, but when even the Knicks won't sign you, you belong on the Stiff List.

STIFF #3: THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS
Richard Jefferson?  Antonio McDyess?  DeJuan Blair?  A healthy Manu Ginobili?  Big deal.  What idiot thought these guys would be neck-and-neck with the Lakers and way better than the Nuggets?  (Oh wait, that would be me.)

STIFF #4: TRACY MCGRADY
After years of suspect handling of his injuries making it virtually impossible for the Rockets to trade him, McGrady goes head-to-head with Rockets coach Rick Adelman demanding to know what his "future" with the organization is.  Tracy, take your league-high $23.2 million and shut the @#$% up.

STIFF #5: DAVID KAHN
Defiant and stubborn as ever, the Timberwolves "president" defended his offseason moves (you know, drafting two point guards before Brandon Jennings not named Brandon Jennings) by proclaiming that the Wolves will be active during next summer's free agent market.  I just pray that Wolves owner Glen Taylor never fires this guy so the Nuggets have four guaranteed wins each season.
