If you're going to Palm Springs...

I've had one date circled on my calendar since it was announced in February: October 11th. That's this Saturday when our Nuggets face off against the Phoenix Suns at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Palm Springs, marking the first time since 1972 that an NBA game has been played outside.

I had my tickets lined up and even had a place to stay, but something (good) has come up with my real job and I'm being flown back East today to kick it off. In other words, I'm not going and I'm not happy about it.

So if you're a Denver Stiffs reader and will be in Palm Springs for this historic event, please take some pictures and send us your commentary so I can post it on Monday when I get back.

Have a great weekend and Go Nuggets!

I'm flying out shortly for this one. It was actually my girlfriend's idea, but I think she's more interested in shopping than the game.

Oh well. It should be fun. Pictures/thoughts coming on Sunday night from me.

ESPN's John Hollinger had a very in depth team article on Nuggets this upcoming season. His prediction: 41-41, 9th in the west.

Watched the game on TV. Here is what I saw.

Good
-Ronaldo Balkman will be a nice player to have. Very good defender.
-JR was the best player on the court besides nash.
-Nene looked active
-Karl was more vocal with the refs than he was all of last season. Actually got up off his chair.

Bad
-Anthony Carter still will get big minutes
-Same offense. In other words, clear out and let xxxx try and score. If that doesn't work chuck it up.

I notice that George got off his fat ass and started in on the refs also. I notice that there WASN'T a lot of whinning from the Nuggets towards the refs. I also notice that ANTHONY CARTER is still a piece of shit. CARTER is the weakest link on the Nuggets team with out doubt. Pretty good D. JR was EXCEPTIONAL as usual. He should start practicing for the dunk contest.

Damn, I am laughing my ass off right now at some of these comments. Anyway, that was lame that A.I. and Melo didn't play. I though Anderson played real good and so did Balkman and JR. Balkman should help a lot on the defensive side of the ball. Lopez dominated Nene pretty bad though, Nene still needs some work. He is a little rusty. I was actaully very impressed by our bench which is the deepest it's been in a while. I also just got done watchin the Nuggets Training Camp on NBATV which was really encouraging (not sarcasm suprisingly). Karl said this is the best his team has ever played the first week of training. But overall the team just looked more solid than last year. We have specialty guys like Balkman and a couple of others who actually play defense, which is good. Hastings, who by the way is a piece of work, said Kleiza has a legit chance of winning 6 man or even starting some nights. I am excited. We are going to be better than everyone expects.

THE STIFF LIST (as of 3/8 by Andrew)

STIFF #1: K-MART'S LEFT KNEE
Best-case scenario, K-Mart misses another week or two with a sore knee.  Worst-case, he's done for the season with knee surgery.

STIFF #2: RON ARTEST
Nice hairdo.  'Nuff said.

STIFF #3: JOEL PRYZBILLA
The Blazers backup center re-injured his surgically repaired right knee after slipping in the shower.  Now we're just waiting for Greg Oden to slip on a banana peel.

STIFF #4: CAVALIERS FANS
Recently set the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets - i.e. Snuggies.  Really?!  This is worthy of a world record?!

STIFF #5: BOSTON CELTICS
Losing to the pathetic Nets and almost losing to the Wizards is one thing.  But to do so at home within a week of each other...now that's an art.  I think it's safe to assume the Celtics are going nowhere in this year's playoffs.
