Nugs, Kleiza Close to Extension

4 years, $25 million

I'm hardly the biggest LK fan, but for $6 mil a year you get a top level bench player.  If he can cut down on thinking he's a superstar and play within a system (provided we have one), he can be a great attribute.  Gets him a little financial stability and gives the Nugs a cheap(-ish) bench player.  Also, if need be, that $6 mil price tag isn't high so he can be moved in a trade.

Now we just need to see if we're picking up Balkman's option before Friday.  I hope we do, especially at $2.1 mil, but it wouldn't surprise me for the front office to let it go to keep our potential flexibility in check.

Not a bad deal

It is almost exactly in line with a midlevel deal and only a tad more than what J.R. would be making if his contract had a fourth year on it. As you pointed out, it is a trade-able contract. Being an extension it has no impact on this season, which is good for luxury tax purposes.

I hope the Nuggets pick up Balkman’s option. If he is given the playing time his production would far exceed that price tag.

Balkman...

I have a feeling that Balkman is going to be my favorite player and my least favorite player* on the team at the same time. He’s batshit crazy, in a good way, but he can’t shoot to save his life.

  • = exception for Chris Andersen who will ALWAYS be my least favorite player on the team.

After last night

I’m ready to see Blakman in a Nugs jersey for the rest of my life.

I’m also ready for LK to be traded.

Whoa.

Big call for one off night there JLucas. I think LK is the kind of guy you miss when you trade him.

It's not one off night

I’ve had problems with LK for years now. He doesn’t work on defense. He tends to be a ball-stopper. I get the feeling he thinks he’s better than he is. It all adds up and annoys me.

I read on ESPN

that Denver isnt going to offer him any extension. Is this a good idea. He will be restricted, correct? If thats the case Denver can match. So in theory they could get him even cheaper in the offseason?

somethings wrong, Trying to conquer these fears i thought were gone. And it's been so long, I'm dying to live in a world i don't belong

He will be restricted

They can play the same waiting game as they did with J.R.

THE STIFF LIST (as of 3/8 by Andrew)

STIFF #1: K-MART'S LEFT KNEE
Best-case scenario, K-Mart misses another week or two with a sore knee.  Worst-case, he's done for the season with knee surgery.

STIFF #2: RON ARTEST
Nice hairdo.  'Nuff said.

STIFF #3: JOEL PRYZBILLA
The Blazers backup center re-injured his surgically repaired right knee after slipping in the shower.  Now we're just waiting for Greg Oden to slip on a banana peel.

STIFF #4: CAVALIERS FANS
Recently set the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets - i.e. Snuggies.  Really?!  This is worthy of a world record?!

STIFF #5: BOSTON CELTICS
Losing to the pathetic Nets and almost losing to the Wizards is one thing.  But to do so at home within a week of each other...now that's an art.  I think it's safe to assume the Celtics are going nowhere in this year's playoffs.
