Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

At least one Nuggets small forward had a productive day in Beijing...

Carmelo Anthony might have struggled against the Chinese in the "Redeem Team's" 101-70 blowout victory, amassing a mere three points (all free throws) on 0-3 shooting. But another Nuggets small forward, Linas Kleiza, had the shot of the tournament thus far.

With 2.1 seconds, Kleiza nailed a clutch three pointer to put his home country Lithuania up for good over the favored Argentines. You can watch it here (since, of course, you can't find it on NBCOlympics.com):

Congrats to Linas. And I'm confident Melo will get back on track against Angola on Tuesday.

It's wierd, every time I sport the Melo jersey bad stuff always happens. Hmmm...Anyways, I have been watching almost all of the basketball I can but I can't manage to ever find the Lithuania vs Argentina match. Good for Kleiza, I have always appriciated his game and he seems to be more clutch than Melo ever will be. Melo had an absolute terrible game today and as a result didn't get much playing time. It almost seems as if Melo is just lost out there half the time. He is always getting mixed up. The rest of the team looks great. I have watched all the teams play that supposedly are a threat to us and I can comfortably say there is no way Greece is going to beat us. The other teams being Spain and Argentina really didn't impress me at all but you never know. Im keeping an eye on Phelps though for now.

way to go Lk. I really hope he's part of the nuggets future and gets an extension this year. I read a quote from george karl somewhere that kleiza is the hardest working player he had ever met.

Urm, goldennugget... how quicky memories fade, eh? Do you recall which player hit the most clutch shots (final 30secs of games decided by 1-3 points) in the NBA for the season before we aquired Iverson? Don't get me wrong, I am really happy to see LK hit that shot. The is no larger stage to do that than at the Olympics (which is the only true World Championship), but to say that he is "more clutch than Melo ever will be" is insane! One game in the playoffs & one shot in the Olympics... True bandwagoner if ever I have seen one. Spain & Argentina don't impress you? I guess if they gambled on D & dunked more you would be impressed? They play a TEAM game and are less concerned with staring at the bench or into the stands after dunking. having said that, I think that the US squard will take the gold... although I will find it humorous if they don't (love seeing those over inflated egos get popped).

anyone watch the Spain/Greece game? Spain plays together well as a team, and like the US team, they have some serious defensive lapses through stretches of the game. But I think when they play full pressure defense they are much better than the US team on that end of the floor. Also, Rudy Fernandez looked reallly really good. He can hit jump shots, he can drive to the basket with no fear of contact, and he plays some pretty good lockdown, man-to-man defense. Everyone better watch out for the Portland Trailblazers this year!

Urm (whatever that means), "csb" obviously you are new to this site. We frequently do some hardcore Nugget bashing, hence the name of the website, and since you are new you must understand our position as incredibly modest fans of our team. So why don't you check out the stifflist and get back to us later when you understand the site.

PS: If you read my comment, which you obviously did and took a great deal in critiquing, you would have understood that I myself am a Melo fan as well. "Every time I sport the Melo jersey" means that I am a Melo fan and in showing my appriciation for the man actually purchased merchandise with his name on it. So don't get your panties in a bundle trying to defend Melo next time, but at the moment Kleiza is hitting buzzer beaters at the Olympics while Melo is riding the bench. Oh, and one more thing. Spain and Argentina didn't impress me one, single, tiny bit. They might play "TEAM" basketball as you like to call it, but if hoisting up 3 pt jump shots is your entire offensive game plan then you have some major adjustments to make before you think about beating Team USA for the Olympic gold.

I HATE the Olympics coverage. We need a C-SPAN type coverage. NO human interest stories - just pure sports.

argentina's defense was totally perplexed then. they got so paranoid about jaskivesicious (or however it's spelt) that they forgot that every other lithuanian player can shoot lol.

LK had a great game this morning (Aus. time) against Iran, who suck, but it's still good.
22 points at 73%, 8 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals in only 22 minutes. He didn't get on until the second quarter!

I watched and was very impressed.

CSB, talk about a bandwagoner saying you think America wins gold but hope they don't, why don't you just come out right now and start rooting for Iran. Yeah Melo was clutch...three years ago! since then who has been the go to guy for the last second shot? it's AI! or if not him then its JR. Melo looked poor again today against Angola, but as I watch the Lithuanian game i must say Kleiza looks good, even if he is going against a seriously inferior team in CSB's new guys

Melo, is not the leader of the Nuggets and has to deal with his issues. He shouldn't even be playing in the olympics. Kleiza, now he's a different story. He has proven that he can score, he hussels puts out much more than Melo. LK might have had a problem wth the fact that AI and Melo wanted him traded for Artest. He wasn't crying about reassurance like Melo. That's the case Melo is a "Me" whereas we all know that it takes five and "We" and D

STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
