Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

Heads-up about Nuggets/Warriors post...

Like all of you, I'm dying to watch the Nuggets / Warriors game tonight. It's undoubtedly the most important game of the season (although it should never have to come this).

Also like all of you, I actually have a day job and as luck would have it, I have a very important business dinner / drinks tonight that I can't get out of. Thanks to the early start time I should be able to watch the whole game. But I doubt I'll be able to blog about it until Friday morning (or maybe I'll blog while drunk late tonight - that could be an interesting experience).

I'm not so self important to think any of you really care. I just didn't want any of my detractors to suggest I've wimped out regardless of the game's outcome. Let's go Nuggets!!

Well even if we do win, I highly doubt it will be because of Mr. Karl. We need Nene for this game! I hope he plays. Everyone needs to step up. Melo's been really hot as of late. Let's hope he can keep it going!

Go Nuggets!

I can't watch the game either, though to be honest perhaps I don't take this game as seriously as most of u guys. Those 2 incomprehensible losses already brought me to hell. This is not a team u can count on,at least this season,at least with George Karl.

I am all for a drunk post by you Andrew! Would be great to see that!

Guys! We're not gonna win this game. GK said it's not important we win the GSW game because we still can "probably" get in!!
Yes, as Denver coach George Karl threw out, "We can probably still get in if we don't win."
I'm a Nuggets fan who wants a different but better head coach. However, I'm pulling for the Warriors tonight. I'd like to put this season out of its misery.

Then management can not just consider hiring a new coach but constructing a team with better chemistry. See what they can get for Kenyon and AI.

George karl quote about the big game today...
"We can probably still get in if we don't win."

I really hope we win this game, but win or lose George Karl needs to be fired for his lack of passion and non nonchalant attitude towards the game of basketball.

George Karl never surprises with his quotes, you should have a special section only for George Karl quotes... some of the things this man says is ridiculously funny. I don't think I'll ever understand him as a coach.

If the Nuggets don't win this game, I'm going to go insane. Carmelo Anthony's been hot, but Allen Iverson is struggling. They both need to be big in this game, and someone like Kenyon Martin and JR Smith need to step up as well. The Nuggets actually won earlier this season when they played at Oracle Arena, and they should be able to do it again.

First one to 110 wins.

they can't beat seattle and you think they can beat GSW?

i agree with whomever said they gave up after the seattle loss. I called the Kings loss, but the seattle game cooked their goose.

Goodbye mr. camby, it was nice knowing you. Hopefully they'll trade you to a contender in the East....maybe Philly, they're full of the nuggets rejects and they'll still be playing the end of next week.

A drunk blog would be entertaining. Let's pull for the Nuggets. Go for a win, get to the coveted 8th seed and then we can all gripe about the playoff performance that will unfold. That said, George's comments are truly uninspiring. I actually get depressed after watching him during the pre and post game interviews. My wife on the other hand ( who has also catches nearly every game ) thinks he has the most sexy voice.
Note to markp: sell off wife.
Go Nuggets !!!

You want the playoffs? Well, we got the playoffs tonight.

Single game series with the Warriors, on their court.

Time to see if we can get over the hump on the road.

Watching this game makes me feel that Carmelo doesn't trust his teammates. He needs to be a more willing passer like LeBron and Wade are. He has the ability it's just he doesn't do it. He should be averaging at least 5 ast a game

What I see is that JR and the Zone defense brought the team back a near blowout in the first, but then JR throws up two 3 point bricks ( the 2nd shot after Karl tells the guys at a time out to be careful on their shot selections ) and he gave Golden State 7 btreakaway points, 2 which were thankfully poorly played by GS. What a game.

Watching the game...

TOLD YOU JR SMITH WAS SO COOL!

You shoud do an article on him, Andrew!

by Geerten on Apr 10, 2008 8:30 PM MDT reply actions

An all out win. Yeah we made some blunders but we came to win. We wanted it, so did GS but truly we were the better team. We had more talent and tonight we brought it on the road to a record sell-out crowd of nearly 21,000 GS fans. GS had their moments of running the score when in previous games the Nuggets would have probably folded even after 2 of AI's free throw bricks and a 6-0 GS run late in the 4th but damn we were winners all 48 minutes. Jr was the spark that changed the Nuggets from another " Here we go again " early in the 2nd period. We were down by what 14-16 points, the fans were rabid, how Refreshing !!! Lets hear from you guys.

I'm glad we won, I didn't see the game but from what I read we did well. I'm glad they slowed down the pace and played tough defense. I still believe they are much better that what we saw tonight and I am hoping they reach their zenith by the playoffs and possibly throw a monumental upset.

George Karl played J.R. Smith for more minutes than Anthony Carter.

George Karl played J.R. Smith for the entire fourth quarter.

Hence...

Viva George Karl!

Yep, JR Smith is saving Karl's job.

J/K, his job was never in jeopardy.

Bubbachuck's best game in a Powder Blue uniform

by Petey on Apr 11, 2008 1:00 AM MDT reply actions

Please notice how much better the Nuggets are without Carter and Camby on the floor. Having other players that can score amazingly makes AI and Melo so much more deadly. I am praying Camby gets traded this summer so Nene can start with K-mart.

I downloaded the game,it's really a tough win.A.I.'s last 2 big shots make me scream!Glad to see u r back,Chuck.

J.R. stepped up and he's always that X-factor 4 the team. Moreover,I can c that he's become more mature.

Melo has high FG as always as he did,but he's still acting like a kid and made some ridiculous turnovers.

And I also think Najera should be given some credit.

Btw,where's MC and KM 2night?

aeneas

er...

it's Chinese website,

http://bbs.hoopchina.com/read.php?tid=323177&fpage=1

The game was broadcasted by a Taiwanese TV station,so the 2 commentators were speaking Chinese the whole game.Though u might hear some players' names,it's not a received pronunciation:)

I can't find an orignial Altitude one,though I prefer an English version,too...

by joanna on Apr 11, 2008 6:35 AM MDT reply actions

It's a game worth watching, if you haven't already.

Helter-skelter craziness on both ends of the floor in the first half, and then 'Melo and AI threw down the hammer in the second half.

Bubbachuck dominated like he was 25.

by Petey on Apr 11, 2008 6:49 AM MDT reply actions

It's good to read Kizla's article but not a word about JR. The reduced minutes by Carter and the increased time by JR did make a difference. Carter did have some fine defensive moments but I'm sure ater he tossed an airball 3 pointer in the 3rd karl may have had enough

thanks a lot ! you saved this rainy day ;-)

I agree with everyones comments and that it was a great game and a great team win. I am very high on JR and am happy with how he has been playing and have matured. With that being said, that T he got was a very young and dumb mistake. I understand that he was showing his emotions but that lead to four ft's which really can change the momentum of the game. GK did a good job of switching up the D, calling effective timeouts, and allowing players like JR to get more minutes than AC. Although AI played great, sometimes I feel like he misses Kleisza when he is out there on the perimeter I saw a couple of times where he did this. Although AI is the man he can show Kleisza some love so he can try to knock down some shots to get him going. Lastly, I WAS a Camby supporter but now am seeing what other Nugs fans are seeing. I think our D was a lot better without him in the game. I feel like he is either A getting older or B not used to playing this many games due to the fact he is getting rested because he is injured. Oh well thats all I got Go NUGGETS!

by wbmustang on Apr 11, 2008 8:32 AM MDT reply actions

My bad I know I hate when people don't spell my name right so I applogize in advance Kleiza!

by wbmustang on Apr 11, 2008 8:36 AM MDT reply actions

Just wow!!! What a great game! See George when you stand up and coach, what you can accomplish! LOL. Finally he used a zone that actually fits his team! The 2-1-2 zone! And Karl said he never really practiced this particular zone! This should be a zone set that they should focus on instead of the 2-3 zone... Maybe try a 1-2-2 zone also but , anyway... HUGE WIN!!!! AI was steller as well as JR. Melo Couldn't buy a foul and someones gotta bring this as a serious issue with the league. Props to Melo for gaining more composure When dealing with these kinds of games which are becoming habitual. Its like The refs arn't allowed to let both AI and Melo get to the freethrow line a lot in the same game. It seems like a concentrated effort. To much regularity with Melo not going to the line in one game then its AI in another. Well anyway, GO NUGGS!

I saw the famous blogger himself last night. He was hanging out with a wife of our division rivals. His info is inside and up to the minute!

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
